But for others, it brought sadness, solitude, and reflection—on loved ones lost, futures uncertain, and the toll of six hard years.
As we mark VE Day on 8 May, it’s right to celebrate peace and the end of conflict in Europe. But it’s also a time to pause and remember the millions of lives lost around the world—on all sides, in all countries. Victory came at a cost, and that too deserves our consideration.
