Celia Moorhouse Wins BBC Make a Difference Award

We’re delighted to share that Celia Moorhouse has won the BBC Make a Difference Award for Volunteering, recognising her incredible dedication to the Batley community.

At 80 years old, Celia continues to inspire everyone around her. As a long-serving member and former Chairperson of the Friends of Batley Library (FOBL), she played a key role in saving the library building and ensuring it remains a welcoming space for all.

Celia also created and distributes the Together in Batley magazine, connecting local residents—especially those who are vulnerable or without internet access—and celebrating the people and places that make our town special.

At the library, she runs the Lego Club and cares for the Butterfly House(now Wilton Park Conservatory) bringing learning and joy to children and families alike.

Celia’s warmth, creativity, and tireless volunteer spirit have made a lasting impact on Batley. Her BBC award is a truly well-deserved recognition of everything she has done to make our community thrive.

Congratulations, Celia – you’ve made a difference to us all! 💛
